Client: The Ramaz School

Architect: FXFowle Architects

In the summer of 2011, this one hundred year old suffered a major fire, severely damaging the interiors and the roof, and destabilizing the building. The Synagogue will be rebuilt to its original grandeur, replacing all original structural elements with new steel and concrete. A 10,000 sq ft addition will also be built above the Synagogue, providing a new gymnasium, classrooms, play roof, and machine room. This new addition will be supported on new concrete shear walls cut into the existing masonry Synagogue walls, along with new footings below the Synagogue building; all without disturbing the already-weakened structure. The project also extended into the adjacent school, with a 26,000 sq ft gut renovation of four floors which was expedited during the summer months of 2013 and 2014.
